Christopher Gitari

An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with extensive experience and training in constitutional and public law, transitional justice, legislative drafting and dispute resolution.

Chris has worked in Kenya and within the wider Eastern African region where he has provided support to state and non-state actors in the areas of constitutional law, alternative dispute resolution, transitional justice, international criminal justice, electoral law and international human rights law.

Prior to joining the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) as the Transitional Justice Advisor, Chris worked as Head of Office, Kenya for the International Center Transitional Justice (ICTJ). At ICTJ was instrumental in developing draft Policy on Reparations for Historical Injustices, draft Regulations for the Restorative Justice Fund and Regulations on Vetting of Members of the National Police Service (National Police Service Commission Act).

Chris has also worked with Kenyan Section of International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya) iin various stations from Legal Officer, Assistant Program Officer and Program Officer. At the ICJ Kenya where he was instrumental in policy and advocacy efforts such as the Truth, Justice, and Reconciliation Act and the Legal Aid Act.

Chris hold a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi, an LL.M. in International Law from the Fletcher School, a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, a certificate in International Legal Practice from The University of Law, (England) and a post-graduate diploma in International Mediation from Queen Mary, University of London. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

He also serves as Vice Chair of the Kenyan Section of International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya).
