Corporate Accountability & TJ in Africa

Two decades after the Accra Peace Agreement, sixteen years since the TRC released its final report, Liberia continues to wrestle with the elite choice of collective amnesia or civil war-era accountability. The proposed War and Economic Crimes Court stands at the centre of that debate; a test of whether the desire for criminal accountability and the enduring wartime memory can coexist with Liberia’s post-war stability.

Dr Aaron Weah, Yasmin Sooka, Wambui Mwangi and Cllr. Dr. Jallah Barbu join Allan Ngari in conversation to discuss the significance of establishing Liberia’s War and Economic Crimes Special Court to address violations that occurred in the country between 1989 and 2003, exploring both the challenges and opportunities to pursuing justice and accountability.
